Ship Scuttling

Precision Demolition has successfully scuttled two former Australian Navy vessels, the Ex HMAS Canberra and Ex HMAS Adelaide for the use of recreational diving wrecks.

Our approach to the scuttling projects was to ensure that the scuttling charges when initiated would leave a clean and safe penetration in the hull that could be later used as a diver access to the vessel.

In researching the way in which previous vessels had been scuttled in the past Precision Demolition developed and engineered a unique method for scuttling charge placement and attachment to the inside of the vessels hull. By developing this unique method of attachment Precision Demolition has significantly reduced the overall explosive loading and placement, has eliminated the need for cumbersome timber attachment and bracing systems previously used and in doing so has significantly reduced the amount of materials being ejected from the vessel during the scuttling process.
